NBA 2K27 Season 1 is giving collections more reasons to maintain depth instead of concentrating everything into one starting five. Player XP, Greatness Series objectives, rotating multiplayer modes, and new card releases all create situations where different player types can become useful. That makes 2K27 MT more valuable when it is used to build a collection that can handle several kinds of content rather than simply adding one expensive card to the lineup.
The new Player XP system is especially important to this approach. Every Player Card can now level up through gameplay, with stronger performances accelerating progression. XP remains tied to the player's account, meaning progress can remain available even if the card is auctioned or exchanged and later reacquired. This gives cards a longer progression life than simply their initial overall rating suggests.
That system also gives secondary lineups a clearer purpose. A card may not be good enough to replace a primary starter, but it can still be valuable when it is connected to an active Player XP objective. Instead of leaving those cards unused, players can build smaller lineups around the current requirements and gradually develop them through actual games.
The Greatness Series is one of the strongest examples of this structure. Current objectives require players to max out Player XP from specific NBA teams, with the Pacific group covering the Warriors, Clippers, Lakers, Suns, and Kings. Completing all five team objectives provides the Greatness Patrick Beverley Pacific completion reward.
This makes team coverage a practical collection consideration. A Lakers card may not fit the preferred competitive lineup but can still contribute to Derek Fisher's Greatness objective. A Grizzlies card can serve a similar purpose for the Southwest progression. The card's usefulness therefore depends not only on its attributes but also on what the current agenda asks the collection to accomplish.
The reward cards themselves can also influence how a secondary lineup is built. Derek Fisher, for example, is a 92 OVR PG/SG reward connected to the Lakers Player XP objective, while Tony Allen is a 92 OVR SG/SF reward connected to the Grizzlies objective. Their positions already suggest different possible uses in a development lineup.
This is where spending discipline becomes important. A collection does not need to buy every card associated with a new objective. Instead, it can look for cards that solve more than one problem. A guard who can shoot and handle the ball can contribute to several modes, while a versatile forward can provide defensive coverage and scoring without requiring a complete lineup rebuild.
The current Greatness Series release gives players plenty of different roles to consider. The September 18 collection includes cards such as Jack Sikma, Stephon Marbury, Devin Booker, Glenn Robinson, Rhyne Howard, Chet Holmgren, Glen Rice, Damian Lillard, Michael Jordan, and Alonzo Mourning. Their different positions and skill profiles create very different lineup possibilities.
Glen Rice is a useful example of why attributes can matter more than the headline overall. His 95 OVR Greatness card is listed at 99 three-point shooting, while his playmaking and defensive attributes are more specialized. That profile naturally makes him more attractive to a lineup that needs perimeter scoring than one looking primarily for an all-around defensive wing.
The same principle can be applied to expensive cards. A high-priced card should ideally solve a problem that appears repeatedly in actual gameplay. If the card only improves one narrow situation while another player already fills the same role, the MT may have more impact elsewhere in the collection.
NBA 2K27's rotating multiplayer structure further increases the value of flexibility. Triple Threat Online and Clutch Time Online return, while other multiplayer experiences rotate throughout the year with different lineup rules, win-streak structures, and rewards. A lineup that works well in one ruleset may not necessarily be the ideal setup for another.
The unified Auction House also makes targeted adjustments more practical. NBA 2K27 connects the Auction House across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, while cards purchased through the marketplace become immediately available. This allows players to respond to collection needs without treating every roster change as a permanent commitment.
U4GM can fit naturally into that process when additional MT is needed for a specific roster adjustment. The useful approach is to determine the role first and spend second. If the goal is a stronger shooting lineup, better defensive depth, or another team-specific Player XP card, the purchase has a clear purpose rather than becoming a reaction to every new release.
Season 1's shared progression also gives players another reason to keep playing different types of content. The 40-level Season 1 ladder connects The City and MyTEAM progression, while MyTEAM offers its own cards and other rewards along the way.
A collection built around multiple roles can therefore keep progressing even when the current objective changes. One group of cards can handle competitive games, another can develop Player XP, and another can be prepared for team-specific agendas. When MT is used to support those different roles, cheap 2K27 MT becomes part of a broader roster-building strategy rather than simply a way to chase the newest card.
